We’re a family of florists. Flowers bring so much joy to us.” - Angie
To the Bankstown Central community, it’s always a treat to walk pass and inhale the fragrance of the blooming florals at Flowers In The Woods. We recently spoke to Angie about her business, and what she loves about Bankstown Central.
My mum originally opened Flowers In The Woods in May 2003 at Bankstown Central. Since then, it’s been a family business - my mum Phyllis and her sister, Antoinette have practically worked together in floristry their entire lives. They’ve raised their daughters to be florists too! We’re a family of florists - we say the number 1 rule to work here is that you have to love flowers. Flowers bring so much joy to us.
Out of all the shopping centres, Bankstown Central feels most like a community. From shop owners to casual employees, everybody knows each other. Bankstown Central has got lots of loyal customers who don’t like to shop anywhere else. You don’t find that in may places.
Our passion for flowers transpires through to our customers via the flowers . Flowers bring so much joy. They’re capable of lifting moods and are a part of all celebrations. They’re very versatile - you can say thank you, sorry, congratulations, goodluck etc.
No but I can say that every year, it’s gotten better. Flowers arrangements are constantly evolving and so are customers' preferences. Back then, we only had a few flowers to work with but now we get them imported from different parts of the world. It just means that we can really be creative.
Traditional and vintage.
We like to use flowers that are going to last, not just flowers that look good. Whilst we want our customer buying the flowers to love how the arrangements look, we also want the recipient to enjoy the flowers for as long as possible. Flowers are supposed to be appreciated - watching them bloom and then wilt, it’s the beauty of flowers.
We’re artists - we won't put something out that we don’t love.
