BANKSTOWN CENTRAL

CAR PARK CHANGES

Frequently Asked Questions

Information for Bankstown Central Retailers

Why is parking changing at Bankstown Central?

We are introducing controlled parking to improve access to parking for customers and support a better overall experience at the Centre, particularly during busy periods.

As demand in the Bankstown precinct continues to grow, these changes are intended to support fair and practical access to the car park and ensure it continues to meet the needs of the Centre.

What is changing?

Bankstown Central will move from all day free parking to a controlled parking system.

Customers will receive 3 hours of free parking per visit. Parking fees will apply after this period.

Is parking still free?

Yes. Customers will continue to receive 3 hours of free parking per visit, with paid parking rates applying after this time.

When will changes take place?

Carpark upgrade works are expected to commence from August 2026 and may impact parking conditions during this time.

Controlled parking is currently anticipated to commence from early 2027.

How much will parking cost after the first 3 hours?

Parking rates will apply after the initial free period. These rates are outlined below and will take effect once the controlled parking system is operational.

  • 0 - 3.0 hours: Free
  • 3.0 - 3.5 hours: $6.00
  • 3.5 - 4.0 hours: $9.00
  • 4.0 - 4.5 hours: $12.00
  • 4.5 - 5.0 hours: $15.00
  • 5.0 - 5.5 hours: $25.00
  • 5.5 - 6.0 hours: $30.00
  • 6.0 - 7.0 hours: $40.00
  • 7.0 hours+ : $50.00
How will the 3 hours free parking work?

Customers can park free for up to 3 hours per visit. If a vehicle remains in the car park longer beyond this period, parking charges will apply in line with the published rates and conditions.

Why are you charging customers who shop at the Centre?

Controlled parking is being introduced to improve access to parking for customers and support a better overall experience at the Centre.

The car park currently services a broader mix of users beyond retail customers, including nearby commercial, educational and transport related demand. This can make it more difficult for customers to find convenient parking, particularly at busy times. With the Sydney Metro expected to become operational from late 2026, further demand on the car park is anticipated.

To support short term customer visits, customers will continue to receive 3 hours of free parking per visit. Based on current visitation patterns, the majority of customers complete their visit within this period and will not incur a parking fee.

On average, the Bankstown customer spends about 1 hour in our centre and we estimate that over 95% of our customers will not pay for parking during their shopping visit.

Who is managing the parking system and how does it operate?

Bankstown Central is partnering with Point Parking to manage the new ticketless parking system.

Point Parking will be responsible for parking operations, including payments, license plate data, and all related customer support. All data will be managed in accordance with Point Parking’s Privacy Policy. Point Parking is responsible for handling all customer data related to your payments and licence plate data.

Will there be retailer parking rates available?

Retailer parking rates will be in place to support team members working at the Centre.

Registered retailer staff parking in designated areas will pay:

  • $4 for stays up to 4.25 hours (casual staff)
  • $6 flat rate for stays longer than 4.25 hours (all day parking)

These arrangements are expected to take effect once the controlled parking system is operational.

Further detail on staff registration and designated parking areas will be provided closer to implementation.

Will there be designated areas for retailers to park?

Dedicated parking areas are planned for retailer use, including locations within Zone A and the main car park.

Further detail, including access arrangements, will be provided closer to implementation.

How will the transition be managed?

An initial transition period will be implemented to support retailers as the new system is introduced.

We will continue to monitor how the car park is operating and make adjustments where needed to support practical outcomes.
